BOTANICAL PERFUMES COLLECTION
INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COLLECTION OF FLORAL ABSTRACTS
A single jar of “perfume” my children made in the backyard, swirling with bits of grass, blossoms and weeds, honey, flowers, mint chapstick, water and food coloring, has captured my imagination and been the catalyst for this collection of paintings.
I place the jar in the window sill. Now I see. Warm romantic light pours through gauzy layers of floating petals. Water bubbles cling to blades of grass. A gentle wave of pink drifts slowly to the bottom. Now I am here. Transfixed. Transported. They are gone. Wrestling and shouting. I gaze into this world of magic and beauty. I am here.
Longing for the magic of child-like curiosity, I try clumsily to stir and concoct my own jars of perfumes and potions. These magical worlds in jars that transfix and transport me every single time.
I transfer these worlds to canvas with poured paint, bold brush marks, and rich color for an abstract floral effect painting. Moments of chaos, moments of control. Submerged in thin, romantic glazes of color and light. I attempt to scratch the surface of the magic and curiosity embodied in that first jar.
